Le città invisibili
- Creative Fields Edu
During the Media Space Design course in RUFA’s Master’s program in Multimedia Arts and Design, we experimented with AI-based generative art by creating short videos that narrate some of Calvin’s Invisible Cities. We used Stable Diffusion and ComfyUI to generate videos and Kohya_ss to generate the Lora that allow customization of Stable DIffusion templates. The project will continue in the second part of the course by turning this content into interactive installations.
FEDORA
Autrice: Annarita Debellis
Fedora is a city suspended in time, a concrete labyrinth that holds wishes never fulfilled. At the center, a metal building encloses glass spheres, each containing an echo of what the city could have been. Every vision, every architectural dream has crystallized into the past, turning into a museum of vanished possibilities. Fedora’s brutalism celebrates the unfinished, exalting the empty and unresolved as a memory of the ideal city that never came into being.
VALDRADA
Autrice: Carola Imbesi
Valdrada is a town suspended between reality and reflection, a place where everything exists twice: in the physical world and in its mirror image in the lake. Every street, every building, every inhabitant is duplicated, creating a mirrored existence that never quite coincides. Here, seeing is not just observing, but interpreting, transforming reality into an infinite series of perspectives. Valdrada invites us to reflect on perception, knowledge and the illusory nature of truth, reminding us that every glance creates a new world.
RAISSA
Autrice: Raffaele Esposito
Raissa is a city marked by fatigue and melancholy, where the burden of life seems inescapable. Yet, hidden among its shadows, there is a web of luminous instants: a laughing child, an elusive smile, a gesture of unexpected joy. Invisible threads weave moments of ephemeral happiness, drawing ever new plots. Raissa teaches us that, even in the darkest places, beauty hides in the details, ready to reveal itself to those who know how to observe.
DOROTEA
Autrice: Giuseppe di Capua
Dorotea is a mirage in the heart of the desert, a city that exists between reality and imagination. Its towers soar like beacons in the void, but its true essence is not measured in numbers or walls: it is made of dreams, hopes and possibilities. In the video, the city reveals itself through the eyes of those who desire it, changing shape between concreteness and vision. Dorotea is not just a place, but a promise: those who encounter it catch a glimpse, for an instant, of all the paths that life can offer.
VALDRADA
Autrice: Elisa Catalano
Valdrada is a town suspended between reality and reflection, where every gesture is repeated in a mirror, creating a continuous splitting of the self. The inhabitants live in obsession with the double, unable to surrender to chance or oblivion, prisoners of an existence that exists only when observed. But which Valdrade is real? What if by mirroring themselves they cancel each other out? In the video, sound becomes the key to escape: underwater, perception changes, revealing a different world, less constrained to the rigidity of the mirror. Immersion in diversity is the only way to break the city’s spell and, perhaps, succeed in returning.
OTTAVIA
Autrice: Silvia Baldo
Octavia is a fragile and visionary city, suspended between emptiness and human ingenuity. A web of ropes, walkways and hanging structures symbolizes the delicate interdependence between man and ecosystem. Here, precariousness is not insecurity but awareness: the inhabitants know that their existence depends on the perfect balance between trust and adaptation. In the video, the contrast between lightness and resilience becomes an image of a suspended everyday life, where every gesture is a pact with emptiness, a play between fragility and resilience.
VALDRADA
Autore: Anthoni Juno
The video explores the theme of circularity and duality, drawing inspiration from Calvin and the city of Valdrada, where each element is reflected in its double. The circle, the central symbol, represents the flow of life, the connection between opposites and continuous transformation. As in Valdrada, where each action reverberates in its image, the visual narrative shows a dynamic balance between tensions that recompose into unity. The video imagines a sustainable and peaceful world in which humans live in symbiosis with the environment, creating harmony between past, present and future.
